JOEY ROOM
Toddler Room (18 months – 3 years)
The Joeys room consists of our youngest Mimosa Kids children aged from 18 – 36 months. In a single day the classroom size totals 18 children and we have 4 permanent staff to accompany them. The focus of the beginning of the year is settling the children into care and establishing strong, trusting relationships, especially for those who have never experienced this environment before. Once the children are comfortable, they explore concepts based on input from families and children’s interests. At this age, the educational focus of the curriculum is to assist them in building upon their language and work on the foundational skills to develop their social skills in the coming years. We encourage the children to feel comfortable being themselves and build confidence so that they can observe and/or participate in new and exciting experiences intentionally planned if they so choose. When each child is ready, educators work with families in a collaborative effort to tackle toilet training. There is nothing off-limits in this classroom and getting messy is often encouraged!

Bilby Room
Junior Preschool Room (3-4 years)
The Bilby room consists of 20 children per day accompanied by 2 permanent educators, although we often have a 3rd joining us. The Bilby room is our junior preschool room and is all about encouraging the children to take responsibility for themself, experimenting with trying new things as well as developing those all-important social skills to the next level. We encourage the children to build their independence and celebrate this with them. Things like being responsible for their own belongings, displaying responsibility for their own hygiene, pouring their own water and using tongs to select their own fruit allow the children choice and build their persistence skills. The children in this age group build emotional resilience and build their social skills, playing alongside one another and beginning to explore collaborative play or discussions. It is frequent that the children in this class begin to display interest in their own name as well and we use this in all kinds of play-based scenarios to develop their understanding of this. The children explore more complex concepts and begin to form real friendships. Children’s interests and family input guide the classroom’s curriculum which works towards the goals of each individual child. Although something that must be assessed for each individual child, due to the individualisation of our program, children are able to move straight to school from this room if necessary. Educators work in collaboration with families and offer as much support and guidance as possible. Experimentation and trying new things are encouraged and celebrated in the Bilby room!

Kookaburra Room
Preschool Room (4-6 years)
The Kookaburra room houses our most veteran Mimosa Kids children. We have 20 children in this group accompanied by 2 educators, although we often have a 3rd joining us. Most of these children have been supported by familiar educators that they have built relationships with as they have moved up classrooms each year. The children really begin to explore complex concepts and really define or perfect some of these skills they have been working on since the beginning of their time in care. Everything the educators implement, works towards the children developing their school readiness skills through play. We explore turn taking, collaborative efforts, taking care of our own belongings, building empathy and displaying kindness to others as well as further developing our social and emotional skills. Alike our two
other rooms, our curriculum is based on family input and children’s interests, who now display much more curiosity about what goes on around them. Due to these ever-growing ideas as well as our effort to build collaborative skills, we implement lots of group project work to build these abilities and knowledge. We really get to see the progress and development of their individual character as they work towards getting ready for a world outside of Mimosa Kids and of course, curiosity is essential!
